Changes to intermediary process - tax credits and child benefit
HMRC have advised that the use of form TC689 - the intermediary authorisation form - only allows HMRC to share information with the nominated person and does not allow them to make changes to a customer's account.
HMRC will be withdrawing the TC689 for child benefit and replacing it with a new authorisation form, CH105. the new form will be available via the GOV.UK website in due course. Those with an existing TC689 in place for child benefit will be able to continue until the 12 month authorisation expires, at which point they will need to complete the new CH105.
HMRC confirm that the TC689 will remain in use for tax credits but will be updated to better reflect the scope of the authorisation.
The changes are expected to take place from 7 April 2025
