DWP ‘in-work’ progression trial

DWP are currently running an exercise aiming to ensure that Universal Credit can deliver effective in-work support. They want to gather information about what can help people stay in work and progress to earn more.

The exercise is run by DWP and they are are currently contacting a number of tax credit claimants, selected at random but who are well established in work albeit with low earnings. Individuals will be invited to contact the National Careers Service to discuss ways of increasing their earnings or getting a better job.

DWP will write out to those people who are selected and they are testing several letter styles and text message prompts, to see which approach generates the best response.

There is no compulsion for anyone who is contacted to take part. The purpose of the trial is to help DWP gain a better understanding about people who are in work and what is needed to encourage or help them to be able to earn more.
