HMRC - annual tax credits report 2015-2016
HMRC have published their annual report to the Treasury for 2015-2016, required under section 40 of the Tax Credits Act 2002 and covering:
- the number of awards (thousands) for Child Tax Credit (3,864) and Working Tax Credit (2,374)
- the number of enquiries conducted under section 19 ( 25,755 in 2015-16 up from 20,714 in the previous year)
- the number of penalties imposed under Part 1 (16,266 cases where a penalty was imposed, up from 14,335 cases in 2014-15)
- the number of prosecutions and convictions for offences connected with tax credits ( 241 prosecutions and 238 convictions for tax credits in 2015-16 compared with 197 prosecutions and 184 convictions in 2014-15).
