UC passported benefits - Free School Meals (England) UPDATE
The legislation which brings into force the income limit for entitlement to free school meals in England for families receiving UC was laid on 7 February 2018 and highlighted in our blog.
The legislation is due to come into effect from 1 April 2018 but before then, there are 2 parliamentary challenges which will mean it must be debated in both the House of Commons and the House of Lords.
Details of the challenges are available on the Parliament UK website:
The early day motion in the House of Commons (EDM 936)
The Motion of Regret in the House of Lords
You can read LITRG’s response to the Government’s consultation about their proposal via the LITRG website

The changes were debated in Parliament on 13 March 2018 and passed. A transcript of the debate is available on the Hansards website
