Dates and eligibility for next HMRC Cost of Living Payment
DWP and HMRC have confirmed the payment dates and eligibility criteria for the third 2023-24 cost of living payment of £299. This is the final of three payments totalling up to £900 for eligible people on means-tested benefits in 2023/24.
Eligible customers receiving tax credits and no other qualifying benefits will receive payments between 16 and 22 February 2024. This follows shortly after DWP payments to other eligible claimants which will start on 6 February 2024.
To get the third 2023-24 payment of £299 from HMRC, HMRC must have made a payment of tax credits to the claimant for any day between 13 November and 12 December 2023 (inclusive).
Each of the cost of living payments has separate eligibility criteria and therefore receiving a previous payment doesn't guarantee eligibility for this one. Claimants do not need to contact HMRC or apply for the cost of living payment – payment will be automatic into the bank account where they receive their tax credits payments.
