HMRC start sending SMS texts to new customers
HMRC are running a short trial to test ways of contacting claimants.
When they receive a new claim form, they will send an SMS text to the claimant with the following message:
“HMRC: Thanks for your tax credits claim. Processing takes up to 3 weeks. No need to call us. We’ll write if we need more info hmrc.gov.uk/security/contacts.htm”
This is only a very short trial running from 5 February 2014 for just a few days, not all new claims will be acknowledged this way. But it is designed to help HMRC decide whether they could use SMS texts more widely for tax credit claimants.
