Ministerial Statement on Universal Credit progress, December 2013

The Secretary of State for Work and Pensions (Mr Iain Duncan Smith MP), has provided his written statement updating Parliament on the progress of Universal Credit implementation. Roll-out through the Pathfinder areas will continue as already announced and will be extended to include claims from couples from summer 2014, and from families from autumn 2014. Once those stages are implemented safely, UC will be extended to cover more areas in the North West of England.

DWP continue to develop the IT infrastructure to support the new scheme and implementation progress is dependent on those solutions. The new planning assumption is that Universal Credit will be available across Great Britain during 2016 and the majority of the legacy caseload will move over to the new system during 2016/2017.
