Tax Credit renewals deadline 31 July
There is just over a week to go before the general tax credits renewal deadline of 31 July. By then, almost all tax credit claimants need to have completed their renewals. Some only have to contact HMRC if they need to report a change or correction to the information shown on their annual review (auto-renewals), while others must contact HMRC to complete their renewal whether or not they have changes or corrections to report (reply-requireds). You can read more in our renewal section.
LITRG recently published a warning about the dangers of potential scam e-mails during the renewal period, the full note is available here.
Many people choose to renew by telephone and, as the deadline gets closer, its likely that the phone lines will be very busy. HMRC tell us its worth trying to avoid calling at peak times such as lunch times and Mondays and Fridays, if possible.
Other ways to renew include post and the new on-line service, which is available via the GOV.UK website.
HMRC also offer an automated telephone renewal service for people who need to contact them (reply-required) but have no changes or corrections to report. This automated service is available on the standard telephone line (0345 300 3900 : textphone 0345 300 3909) and is also available on Sundays.
