HMRC publish Self-employed Helpcard
In response to calls for more guidance around self-employment for tax credit claimants and their representatives, HMRC have produced a Helpcard on the subject.
It is designed to provide more information for people who claim tax credits and are self-employed, including things like what type of records to keep, what type of activities can count towards remunerative work and how to decide whether or not the activity will count as self-employment for tax credit purposes.
There is little specific detail in the actual legislation around self-employed work for tax credits and LITRG have asked HMRC to provide further clarification on some of the guidance contained in the Helpcard. We will publish supporting information in due course.
