Low Pay Commission consultation
The Low Pay Commission (LPC) is the independent body that monitors the impact of the minimum wage and advises Government on its level.
They have launched a consultation on the national minimum wages rates for April 2019 and are seeking evidence on the effects of recent increases in the National Living Wage and National Minimum Wage to inform thinking about future upratings.
This year’s consultation contains extra questions because the LPC has been asked to look at a recommendation made in ‘Good work: the Taylor review of modern working practices’ and, separately, they are conducting a review of the minimum wage structure, encompassing: a review of the youth rates of the minimum wage and the introduction of the National Living Wage; and a review of the Apprentice Rate, in light of significant policy changes to apprenticeship policy in England.
The consultation closes on 1 June 2018. Details of the consultation and how to respond are available on the GOV.UK website
