Reaching State Pension Age on Universal Credit

The Secretary of State for Work and Pensions has announced that regulations will be laid to make provision for people who reach state pension age while they are claiming Universal Credit to receive a run-on  payment, meaning that they can receive a payment for the entire assessment period in which they reach their state pension age.

Entitlement to pensioner benefits and state pension will be unaffected. This is designed to make sure there is no gap in benefit provision as people approach state pension age.

This process is already in operation on an extra statutory basis and legislation will be amended accordingly later this year.
